Adele Thanasoulis: “I Got Married in Vegas Through a Drive-Thru”

I started off as a young naive, adventurous girl from Cape Town, South Africa who wanted to see the world! I decided to become an Au-Pair in America.

My first adventure took me to New York. I lived there for about 13 months and then decided to go to London seeking more adventure!

I ended up “nannying” for various families – what an experience!  After about 5 months in London I got a nanny job with a very wealthy Greek – English family not knowing at that time that my life was about to change forever.

My first 6 weeks were amazing – traveling the Greek Islands on the family’s luxury motorboat and my job – taking care of the family’s 2 toddlers along with another South African Nanny.  It was the best job I’ve ever had!

On one of my few off weekends, I decided to go to Mykonos.  That’s where my life’s path would take me in a direction I could never have imagined!

Mykonos is where I met my husband, the love of my life! He was living in Seattle at the time and was only visiting his family in Greece. After 9 days together and trying to get to know as much as we can about each other he left and went back to Seattle.

It didn’t take me very long to follow and the next thing I knew I was on a plane – Seattle bound.  I got there in November and we got married in Vegas through a drive-thru in January.

We’ve moved around a lot, Greece, Las Vegas, San Diego and now we have settled in Los Angeles, California

I have always had a passion for trying new things, seeing new places and meeting people from all over the world.  Lucky for me my husband shares this passion with me.

We have 2 boys – they are my biggest joy and accomplishment.  I now spend my days taking care of their needs, they come first.  Life has definitely changed since the boys came along but I wouldn’t change it for anything.

I am looking forward to seeing so many new places with them. I try to be a good person, help where I can and always try and be a good friend to someone who needs it.

I think we have found our forever place in this world, but I can never feel the way I feel when I go back to South Africa. Nothing will ever come close.  Home is after all where the heart is.
